My journey with Choco: Chocolate Labrador Healing journey By Miriam Huizenga
For twelve beautiful years, from 2006 to 2018, I shared my life with my four-legged son, Choco, a chocolate Labrador Retriever who truly lived up to his name—sweet, loving, and full of heart.
My husband and I were never blessed with children, and Choco became our family. His unconditional love carried me through some of the darkest moments of my life. He was more than a companion; he was my teacher, my comfort, and my faithful friend.
When his kidneys began to fail, I knew the time was approaching to let him go. It was one of the most difficult decisions I have ever faced. During those final days, I spoke to him from my heart:
"If it is time for you to go, please go. I don't want you to suffer anymore."
I also asked him something very personal:
"If you can, please show me where you are going."
As we rested together on the couch, with my head close to his, I experienced something that forever changed my life. I felt as though Choco reached toward a magnificent Being of Bright Light. In that moment, I experienced what felt like moving through a tunnel of light toward an extraordinary presence whose crystal-like radiance and sparkling blue-green eyes filled me with profound peace.
The being showed me a landscape of luminous, flowing waters unlike anything I had ever seen.
The beauty of that place has remained in my heart ever since.
To me, this experience revealed a deep spiritual connection that I understand as Andromedan, resonating with what I feel is my soul's home. Whether others interpret this differently, I know the love and peace I experienced were real.
Years later, when we rescued Milo, our black Labrador, I immediately felt a familiar presence. In my heart, I believe Choco's love continues to guide us, and through Milo, I am reminded every day that love never truly leaves us.
Choco taught me that love does not end when a life ends.
Love continues. Love transforms. Love remains.
